Thanksgiving Day is an American traditional day where families and friends get the chance of being together sharing a special meal. The meal often includes turkey accompanied with garnish such as potatoes and vegetables. You can also add cranberry sauce or gravy and have afterwards a delicious pumpkin pie.
Thanksgiving Day is a date used by many Americans to thank for what they have. It is the last Thursday of November, therefore this year it will be celebrated on the 27th.
It is claimed that the first Thanksgiving Day was held in the city of El Paso, Texas in 1598. Another early event was held in 1619 in the Virginia Colony but many people trace the origins of the modern Thanksgiving Day to the harvest celebration that the Pilgrims held in Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1621. However, the first true thanksgiving was in 1623, when they thanked for the rain they got, which, ended with a drought period.
